If you have a lot of paint spilled on your floor, this can be difficult to remove, especially once the paint dries. Fortunately, there are ways to get the paint off, two of which are listed below.

Dry Ice Blasting

A dry ice blaster uses compressed air to blast carbon dioxide pellets at very fast speeds to the surface of what is being cleaned, such as a floor with paint spilled. Once the pellets hit the floor, the paint is lifted along with any dirt that may be there. When finished, the paint will be completely gone, and you would never know it was there.

If the paint is very thick or very stuck to the floor, the contractor may add an abrasive to the mixture so the paint will come off. This is much more eco-friendly to clean because if you had to clean the paint yourself, you would probably use chemicals to get the paint off. These chemicals may not be able to get all the paint off, no matter how much you scrub. With dry ice blasting, you won't have to worry about this. You do need to hire a professional to do this for you if you have no experience or do not have the proper equipment.

Things You Can Try

There are some things you can try on your own to get the paint off. One is to use soap and water. Get the water as hot as you can, put a few drops of liquid dish detergent in the water, and mix. Pour the water over the paint and let it sit for about 20 to 30 minutes. This gives it time for the paint to soften. After this, use a towel to dry the area and then a clean cloth to wipe the floor. If the paint has not been on the floor for a long period of time, this may work for you.

If you have a wood floor, you could use a sander to get the paint off. You would have to refinish the area when you are done, however, as this will damage the wood. Purchase a hand sander and tell the salesperson what you are using it for. They can then help you choose the type of sandpaper you need.

Dry ice blasting will be your best option if the paint has been on for a long time. Start there first so you won't waste time doing things on your own. Contact a dry ice blasting service, such as Dry Ice Blast Cleaning, to learn more.
